Tributes to P.J. Dragseth
Phyllis is a beautiful light that will continue to shine in all the family and friends who were lucky enough to know her. She shared that special light with everyone, which made friends of people she just met feel like they had known her always. As one of those "new" friends, I am so grateful for having known her even for a short time. Her sly wit, mischievous smile and indomitable will were a rare combination in such a lady. I will never forget her wonderful example of focusing on the good in people, life or any circumstance. Thank you, P.J. You made the world a brighter place.

Mrs. D was a dear friend of mine. I grew up with her two daughters, who are both still very dear to me. She was my favorite substitute teacher in grade school. She used to call me her "Little Enforcer" because I would always step in when other kids in class were not behaving. During my time in CYA, she would travel 3 hours each way to visit me. That has always meant a lot to me. Mrs. D will be missed.

Although I never met PJ, we had many phone conversations regarding the House of David Baseball clubs and my book Baseball's Bearded Boys, 1996. I sent her the book Brother Benjamin as a reference book. She seemed to be a genuine baseball fanatic. She will be missed, indeed.

PJ Dragseth was my Mom. I developed my love of baseball because of her. In 1979, our house got cable. My Mom made a choice - shall we watch the Braves on WTBS or watch the Cubs on WGN? Well, she chose WGN and the loveable loser Chicago Cubs - a decision that has impacted my life since then! I have such fond memories of watching day games with Mom while I still lived at home. Then, while in college and beyond, calling Mom to discuss the games, the players, the direction of the baseball season. I am so very grateful that she has been able to share her love of the sport not only with her family, but with hundreds of other baseball fans through her many books. She has created an amazing legacy and it makes me so very proud of her!
